Summer is a season where love affairs get hot and get caught. And the place where these things happened was in Concepcion, Iloilo in the Philippines.
We left the city of Iloilo at around 9am to get hitched in the summer paradise up north. We had a two and a half hour bus ride to reach Concepcion, Iloilo. From the town plaza, we rode a bangka to Tagubanhan Island. It was an hour of travel. The island is where one of the scholars of Asilo de Molo, Inc. lived. Her name is Relyn Ginete. We asked her about the Sand Bar prior to our trip and she invited us to visit an stay at their place upon heading to the Sand Bar.
Our group was composed of former volunteers of Asilo de Molo, Inc. and our three Health/Nursing Department staff.
Our trip was filled with the following;
After our lunch, we walk by the shore of Tagubanhan island. Our walk ended in an area where rocks are everywhere and a big one made it difficult for us to pass through. The rock formation was a good place to have couple of pictures. I feel like it was the meeting of the sky, the see, the rocks, and the human.
We took lots of jumpshot photos. It was an epic afternoon as we have to jump many times just to have a perfect photo. We did have a couple of good shots of our jump but we’re not complete (We’re 15 persons in this trip).
Bonfire and Night Swimming
Spending a night at the beach or an island is never memorable without a bonfire. We lit our bonfire by 8pm. Before this, Relyn’s mother taught me how to make ‘banlak’ for the bonfire. ‘Banlak’ is made of dried coconut leaves pulled together.
Some didn’t swim while most of us enjoyed the waters. We appreciated the life in the island while immersed in sea water. People of the island used solar panels for electricity. Most houses cut their electricity at 10pm. And among the other things, the stars above us glitters even if the moon is not around.
‘Drunk Talk’ at 12mn to 2am.
While most of our companions are asleep, the five of us decided to continue the drinking session. We talked about everything and got hitched by the sex education topic. Thanks to our friend Desirre who just had her first ‘gift’ from her boyfriend just recently.
Hiking at 6am
I love hiking especially in the morning. And I was really thankful that it was included in our itinerary. The island is mountainous so Relyn brought us to one of the highest point in the island.
Going up isn’t difficult as there was already a trail. The problem with our journey up was we didn’t bring water and haven’t had a pre- climb exercise. We got sore legs and were thirsty. I had to do some stretching during rest to minimize the soreness of my legs.
We didn’t really reach the top since there were dogs blocking our way. We just content ourselves by taking pictures in front of the rocks and of course, on top of them.
We enjoyed the view down under for thirty minutes. It’s not about being on the zenith. It’s about my way up.
Jumps and Photos at the Sand Bar
We were caught by a love bug that we fell in love not only with the islands in Concepcion, Iloilo of the Philippines, but also with the new people we meet. We’re affiliated in one organization or health care facility but we were binded by a beautiful place. To end my blog post, here’s a happy photo taken by my work bestfriend, Desirre.
